Carlow Golf Club - 31st August 2011

Carlow Golf Club is not a links course and not part of “The Links’, but I got an invitation from my Irish skiing friend, Kevin Kelly, to join him and two of his friends, Barry Walsh and Michael “Guru” Morrissey, for a game. Can’t turn down an offer like this, so it’s an additional game on my “day off”.

Carlow Golf Club has been around since1899 – more than 100 years! It’s a lovely inland course with a touch of links style - narrow and very firm fairways.

It’s not a long golf course, but it’s tricky with a great variation of holes. Almost all holes are “up and down” in elevation and it’s just a fun golf course to play.

The signature hole is the 14th, a dogleg left 435 meters par 4. A fantastic hole that require a good drive and a very precise second shot to have a chance to get a par. A bogy is nothing to be ashamed off!

We played from the blue tee (6049 meters). Managed to do 1 birdie, 8 pars and 9 bogey’s (and more), for a total of 80 (gross). The game off tee was shaky, but recovery shots and the game on green were solid and made the score.

I really enjoyed the golf course. Kevin, Barry and “The Guru” are very relaxed and fun guys to play with. “The Guru” just pulled out one story after another – brilliant. Many Thanks for a great day.

GREAT THINGS ABOUT GOLF

MEETING UP WITH OLD FRIENDS FOR A GAME

Golf is a highly sociable sport and there’s no better way to catch up with old buddies than spending four hours with them on the golf course. Just as long as you win.
